Our main purpose for this week has been to ensure that children are aware that the school will not tolerate bullying in any form. However one of the main ways of addressing any bullying is to encourage children to TELL. During the week that message came out very strongly. As I keep reminding everybody if the good people keep quiet the evil people prosper.
Pupils tie blue ribbon to the fences to show their support against bullying
During the week we had an excellent presentation for KS1 and yr3 about how to deal with bullying. This was done with puppets and the children really enjoyed the play along with learning the lessons again about bullying.
Many of the children had made blue wristbands to wear for the week and this meant that parents and children had talked about the issues.
The assemblies that week covered the whole topic and reminded the everyone that BLUE could mean
BE LOVING and UNDERSTANDING to EVERYONE
The School Council met and discussed points that had been brought up in classes and most of the council felt that the incidence of bullying in the school was slight and they felt everyone knew who to tell when in trouble. It is a matter of confidence really. It is important that the children know without a doubt that all the staff take any incident of bullying very seriously and any cry for help will not be ignored.
During the week all the children tied blue ribbons to the courtyard fence and on the last day of the week we all dressed in blue and went out into the playground to form huge circles all holding hands. We called out a chant “No bullying at Cage Green.”
The whole school joins hands and chant "No Bullying at Cage Green..." Was it worth it?? It was a busy week and children enjoyed all the activities. They certainly heard the messages about bullying loud and clear. It seemed that during the week there were more incidents of bullying reported but that was we hope because the children were doing what they had been asked which was to tell.
It is really important that the messages remain clear in our children’s minds:
No bullying at Cage Green !
Tell someone if you are worried or afraid ! |
