School Council

The NEW school council was elected at the beginning of September. There are 2 representatives from each year group and we hope that 2 may also join us from the Reception class after Christmas. Most of the council reps talk with and listen to the views of their classes during Circle Time and then bring any school issues to the council for discussion.

At present Mrs Moore takes notes at the meetings and Mrs Miller is chair person but that may change as children get more used to the council meeting format.

Issues from Last Coucil Meeting:

1) Golden Time - Could we have it? What it mean? and would it help with behaviour? - Beth, a new member of the school explained what happend in Golden Time at her old school. Other members did not seem very keen but it is still a possibility. Mrs Miller is going to discuss with staff members.

2) Improvement of the Toilets - Plans are underway for a complete renovation of each toilet block - starting with the older boys - the Football toilets as soon as possible.

3) Skating or Rollerblading - An area in the playground. Most members felt this was not safe or feesible.

4) Fruit Trees - planted in the field - Again there were concerns amongst members that fruit would be eaten before it was ripe. Still under consideration. The blossom would be nice!

5) Monkey Bars - Included in Playdale or on the KS1 Playground. There is a possibility for an extension of playdale but not on KS1 playground. Mrs Miller is going to follow this up.

6) Class Pets - Some thought this was an excellent idea but others weren't so keen. The issue of allergies has to be considered. Mr Young is to bring a rabbit for reception. It was decided that we would see how this went.

7) School Meals - It was agreed that we should have a whole meeting to discuss School meals and how they could be improved. Possibly ask one caterer to come to a Council Meeting.

8) Bullying - Again it was agreed to have a whole council meeting to discuss this important issue. It would be helpful to have feedback from classes.

9) Football Nets and Scoreboard - This is wanted for playtimes. Mrs Miller has agreed to look into its viability.
